Tuesday HS sports roundup: West, DCE hockey win; Marathon boys basketball stays perfect.

There was no post-Marathon Cup hangover for the Wausau West and D.C. Everest hockey teams on Tuesday. The Warriors, who won their Marathon Cup title for the 19th straight season on Saturday, rolled past a shorthanded Mosinee 10-0 in a game heard live on 98.9 WXCO. Shea Jones and Owen Pergolski each recorded hat tricks for West while Chase Crass added a pair of goals and Julian Scalcucci stopped 17 shots in the shutout. West is now 8-0 and will travel to unbeaten defending state champion Edgewood on Saturday. Hear that game live on 98.9 WXCO starting with the pregame at 2:35 pm and face off at 3.

D.C. Everest bounced back from their Marathon Cup championship game loss to West with a 6-3 win over East-Merrill United. The Evergreens had six different players score while Griffen Bunnell stopped 21 shots as Everest improved to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the WVC. EMU goalie Aiden Hotchkiss made 32 saves for the Bluejacks.

In high school boys’ basketball, Marathon continues a very impressive start to the season with a 75-46 win over Newman Catholic in a game heard live on the Sports 2 Stream of wxco.fm and on the Civic Media app. Four Marathon players scored in double figures with Logan Peters with 17 points, Garrett Bracewell had 14, Ean Shuda 13 and Drew Woelfel 12 as the Raiders moved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Marawood-South. Newman (2-4 overall, 2-1 Marawood-South) got a game-high 30 points from Quincy Pfender.

Wausau West dropped to 3-3 on the season with a 61-38 loss at Rhinelander on Tuesday. Will Stengl had 10 points for the Warriors while Rhinelander (5-1) was led by Devon Feck with 25 points.

Mosinee moves to 4-2 overall after beating Brillion 68-54. Brayden Reinke continues his hot scoring streak with 23 points while Treve Stoffel added 16 and Mitchell Michlig 14.

In girls basketball both Wausau West and D.C. Everest each earned non-conference wins on Tuesday. The Warriors snapped a six-game losing streak with a 53-49 win over Lakeland at the West Fieldhouse. West is now 3-7 overall. D.C. Everest also had a tight one but held off New Richmond 50-47 to improve to 3-4 overall.

Newman Catholic won their second straight game as the Cardinals erased a halftime deficit and beat Pittsville 57-50. Aubrey Puent 24 points and Claire Bodenheimer added 16 for Newman (3-5 overall).
