Girls’ basketball season tips off Tuesday with Wausau West falling to Pacelli, Marathon winning and Newman falling.
The winter high school sports season tipped off on Tuesday with action in girls’ basketball throughout central Wisconsin. In a game heard on 98.9 WXCO, Wausau West fell to Pacelli 72-39. The Warriors had trouble dealing with Pacelli’s pressure defense with turnovers leading to Pacelli fastbreak points. Freshman Maci Durr led West with 19 points. 15 points each for Haylee Ciesewski and Ella Van Order for Pacelli, who are expected to compete for a Division 5 state title this season after returning four double digit scorers from a 21 win team of last season. Wausau West returns to action on Friday night vs. Superior in Merrill.
