Brackets for 11-Player football playoffs announced. 8-Player playoffs got underway this weekend.

Area 11-player High School football teams now know their road to Camp Randall Stadium after the WIAA playoff brackets were released this weekend while the 8-Player playoffs got started on Saturday.

In Division 1 the Wausau West and D.C. Everest football teams are one win each from a Level 2 match up. However, both teams will have to win on the road this Friday to make that happen. West (5-4) is seeded 8th and will travel to #1 seeded Arrowhead (8-1) in a game that will be broadcast live from Hartland on Friday night on 98.9 WXCO, online at wxco.fm, mobile devices by searching WXCO and on the Civic Media app. D.C. Everest (6-3) is seeded 5th and will also make a long roadtrip to southeastern Wisconsin to face 4th seeded Brookfield East (7-2) on Friday. The winners of those two games will meet at the higher seed in Level 2.

In Division 2 there is on area team in the bracket as Marshfield (5-4) is seeded 6th and will have a road game at 3rd seeded Oshkosh North (8-1). The winner moves on to face either 2nd seeded New Richmond or #7 Ashwaubenon in Level 2.

Division 3 features a number of teams from the Great Northern Conference. Wausau East (4-5) earned their second straight playoff berth and is seeded 7th. The Lumberjacks will play at 2nd seeded Mount Horeb/Barneveld (7-2) on Friday at Mount Horeb High School. Also in Division 3 Merrill is seeded 4th. The Bluejays (6-3) will host GNC rival Lakeland (5-4) at Jay Stadium on Friday. Merrill beat Lakeland 34-14 in Minocqua earlier in the season. The winner of that game will play either another GNC team, 8th seeded Medford (3-6), or top seed Grafton (9-0) in Level 2. Another GNC team making the postseason is Rhinelander. The 3-6 Hodags are seeded 8th and play at #1 seed Madison Edgewood on Friday.

One of the Great Northern Conference co-champions, Mosinee (7-2), are competing in Division 4. Mosinee are seeded 2nd in their bracket and will host 7th seeded Beloit Turner (4-5) in Level 1. With a win, Mosinee would also host a Level 2 game against either #3 Evansville or 6th seeded Shoreland Lutheran.

The other GNC co-champions are Lakeland (8-1) and the Hatchets are a #1 seed in Division 5. Tomahawk will host 8th seeded Omro (3-6) on Friday night with the winner facing either 4th seeded New Holstein or #5 Spencer/Columbus in Level 2. Also in that part of the D-5 bracket is Stratford (7-2). The Tigers are seeded 2nd and will host #7 Richland Center on Friday. The other side of the bracket has another CWC-Large squad in Amherst (8-1). Amherst is seeded 2nd and will be home vs. 7th seeded Lancaster. A third CWC-Large school in the D-5 bracket is Wittenberg-Birnamwood. Despite a 4-5 record, the Chargers are seeded 5th in their part of the bracket and will travel to 4th seeded Brookfield Academy (5-4).

The 9-0 Edgar Wildcats, after winning Division 7 state titles the last two seasons, are in D-6 this year because of the WIAA competitive balance formula. Edgar is seeded #1 in their bracket and will be home on Friday night vs. #8 Loyal/Greenwood of the CWC-Large. Loyal/Greenwood started the season at 4-0 but lost their final five games of the regular season. Also in the Edgar part of the bracket is Marathon. The Red Raiders (4-5) are seeded 7th and will travel to #2 Kewaunee on Friday. In another part of the D-6 bracket is Abbotsford. The Falcons (6-3) are seeded 7th and play at #2 Mondovi (8-1).

The Division 7 playoff bracket features a pair of Marawood/CWC squads. Assumption (3-6) makes the playoffs in their final season of 8-Player football as a 8 seed and travel to unbeaten #1 seed Cochrane-Fountain City on Friday. Pittsville (4-5) is a 7 seed after earning their playoff spot with a 3 game winning streak to end the regular season. The Panthers will play at #2 seed Hilbert (7-2) in a Level 1 game on Friday.

8-Player football got started with Level 1 on Saturday. #5 seed Newman Catholic saw their season end with a 65-0 loss at #4 Frederic. The numbers game caught up with the Cardinals as 3 two-way starters were out injured plus other injuries limited Newman players. Senior Triston Fisher caught 7 passes for 114 yards and also had an interception for Newman, who finish 5-4.

Athens earns an impressive win in their 8-Player playoff debut as the 4th seeded Bluejays beat #5 Niagara 46-0. Athens did their damage early with a 40-0 lead at halftime. Running back Evin Passehl had 177 yards rushing on 14 carries with 2 touchdowns and added three catches with one TD. Athens will travel to #1 seeded Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas in a Level 2 game on Friday.
