It was a tough week for the Wausau West, D.C. Everest and Wausau East football teams while Edgar continues to roll in the Marawood/CWC and Mosinee, Merrill and Tomahawk stays atop the Great Northern.
In the Wisconsin Valley Conference the Wausau West football team saw their hopes of a league title take an almost fatal blow on Friday when the Warriors lost at Marshfield 40-22 in a game heard on 98.9 WXCO. The game turned during a short period at the end of the 2nd quarter and start of the 3rd quarter when three Wausau West turnovers turned a 7-7 tie into a quick 25-7 lead for Marshfield that wouldn’t be threatened. Haiden Carlson paced the Tigers (3-4 overall, 3-1 WVC) with 174 yards on 19 carries including two touchdowns. West (4-3 overall, 3-2 WVC) got a good night on the ground from Cooper Depuydt, who rushed for 119 yards on 19 carries and a TD. The win lifts Marshfield into a second place tie in the conference with SPASH, one game behind first place D.C. Everest.
The Evergreens are still perfect in the conference at 4-0 but saw their overall record fall to 4-3 on Friday as Chippewa Falls came into Stiehm Stadium and beat D.C. Everest 35-14. A 4-0 edge in the turnover battle aided the Cardinals, who improved to 3-4 overall and are 1-3 in the Big Rivers Conference. Everest running back Corbin Enzenroth had another big night on the ground with 30 carries for 156 yards and a touchdown. However Everest had a tough time slowing down the Chippewa Falls rushing game as they finished with 221 yards as a team.
