Senior running back Corbin Enzenroth was a workhorse for the D.C. Everest football team Friday night with 35 rushes for 226 yards and a touchdown to help the Evergreens beat Wausau West 17-0 in a game heard on 98.9 WXCO. Enzenroth and sophomore quarterback Ty Rohde each had rushing touchdowns in the third quarter to lift Everest (2-2 overall and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference). The rest was handled by the D.C. Everest defense which held the Warriors to 123 yards of total offense. Miles Waldvogel had 71 yards rushing on 9 carries for West, who drop to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the WVC. West returns to action next Friday at home vs. Wisconsin Rapids. 6:35 pm airtime live on 98.9 WXCO, online at wxco.fm, mobile devices by searching WXCO and on the Civic Media app.

Wausau East jumped out to an early 14-0 lead at Thom Field vs. Rhinelander but it was all Hodags after that in a 28-14 Rhinelander win. East is now 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Lumberjacks travel to Mosinee on Thursday in a game that will be broadcast live on 98.9 WXCO, wxco.fm, mobile devices and Alexa by searching WXCO and on the Civic Media app starting with the pregame at 6:35 pm. The Bluejays are 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the GNC while Medford falls to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

In the CWC-Large, Stratford and Wittenberg-Birnamwood have played some thrillers in recent seasons and Friday night’s game was not different as Stratford rallied to win 16-13 in overtime. The Tigers tied the game with a 11 yard TD pass from Brady Berg to Connor Kreft with 1:42 left in the 4th quarter and then won it on a 33 yard field goal by Declan Fisher in overtime. Both teams are 2-2 overall with Stratford 2-0 in the CWC-Large and the Chargers 1-1 in league.

Abbotsford won for the third straight week, topping Pacelli 42-18 to improve to 3-1 and 2-0 in the Marawood/CWC. Auburndale is 3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference after shutting down Pittsville 41-0. Assumption is 2-0 in the conference after beating Iola-Scandinavia 32-26.

In 8-player football, Newman Catholic improves to 3-1 on the season with a 22-14 win over Niagara in a game heard on 98.9 WXCO. The Cardinals came out quickly, leading 14-0 after one quarter and 22-0 at halftime before Niagara attempted to rally. Quincy Pfender had 19 rushes for 154 yards and 2 touchdowns for Newman while Cooper Guld’s interception with just under a minute to go snuffed out Niagara’s final drive. Newman travels to CW-8 first place Marion-Tigerton next Friday with a win needed to tie for the conference lead. Hear that game live on the Sports 2 Stream of wxco.fm and the Civic Media app Friday at 6:40 pm.
