Wausau West, Mosinee and CW Storm earn high seeds as WIAA hockey playoff brackets announced.

Area high school hockey teams know their road to the state tournament after the playoff brackets were announced on Sunday.

In Division 1, Sectional 1, unbeaten and state #1 ranked SPASH earns the top seed and a first round bye. The Panthers will meet the winner of the game between #8 Chippewa Falls and #9 Eau Claire North in a regional final on Thursday, February 20th. Wausau West is the 2nd seed and will meet either #7 Superior or #10 Tomah/Sparta on Feb. 20. D.C. Everest is seeded 6th in the bracket and will host #11 Wisconsin Rapids in a regional semifinal on Tuesday, Feb. 18. East-Merrill United is a #12 seed and travel to 5th seeded Eau Claire Memorial in the regional semifinals on February 18. Marshfield is 13th seed and plays at #4 Hudson on Feb. 18.

Division 2, Sectional 2 features 7 Great Northern Conference teams with all regional final games on Thursday, February 20th. Tomahawk, who emerged from this bracket and advanced to state a year ago, is seeded #1 and will host 8th seeded Rhinelander. Mosinee is the 2 seed and will be home against #7 Medford. Lakeland is seeded 3rd and meets #6 Shawano/Bonduel while Northland Pines is the 4 seed and will host #5 Antigo.

In the girls’ bracket, the Central Wisconsin Storm is the #1 seed in Sectional 1. The Storm will begin the postseason in the sectional semifinals vs. the winner of the game between #4 Wisconsin Valley Union and #5 Northland Pines. Superior is seeded 2nd and will meet either #3 seed Hayward or #6 Medford in the sectional semifinal.

The boys and girls state hockey tournament will be held March 6th to the 8th at Bob Suter’s Legacy 20 Arena in Middleton. Full brackets can be found at wiaawi.org.
