GREEN BAY, WI – (WGBW & WISS) – The Medicare Open Enrollment period is happening now through December 7th. Ingrid Kundinger, the Wisconsin Senior Medicare Patrol Program Director says now is the time to make any changes to your Medicare coverage for next year. She said it is also the time to watch out for scammers.
“If your medical situation has changed significantly. Or if you have new medications that you are taking that you want to make sure are covered in a new plan. If you want or need to switch providers. All of those things are important to take a look at right now,” said Kundinger. “If the plan you are currently in isn’t meeting your needs, this is a good opportunity for you to explore options for other plans that might be a better fit for you. Then make those changes. So that, come January 1st of 2025 you have the best Medicare plan for your situation.”
Kundinger said it is important to remember that Medicare is not one size fits all. Your plan should be customized to your specific health situation and needs.
“So even partners or couples, it’s not like ‘Oh, I’m going to take the same one as my partner.’ It’s really what’s best for you,” Kundinger said.
During Medicare’s Open Enrollment period, if you need help, Kundinger recommends going directly to Medicare.gov. You can also visit your county’s Aging and Disability Resource Center or ask a trusted insurance agent. She said to be wary of television commercials or direct mail flyers you may see.
“It’s really important to get that unbiased support. So that you’re not feeling pressured or the person on the other end of the line isn’t pressuring you into a plan that’s better for their commission than your actual Medicare,” said Kundinger.
