Royals win again

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – In what has been a tough season for the four local high school football teams, the Assumption Royals are carrying the water in the win column, as it earned its second straight victory with a 32-26 in overtime over Iola-Scandinavia.

Nekoosa couldn’t rally past Wautoma, dropping a 25-28 decision while Port Edwards and Wisconsin Rapids were handed one-sided defeats; Port lost to Almond-Bancroft 59-6, and Rapids was dropped by Stevens Point, 56-0.

This week, Rapids and Nekoosa hit the road, with the Raiders going to Wausau West and the Papermakers going to Waupun.

Port will receive a forfeit victory over Bowler/Gresham, but will host Rosholt, while Assumption hosts Abbotsford.

The Royals and Falcons will be broadcast on 105.5 FM WIRI with pregame beginning at 6:50 p.m. with Mike Kommer and Randy Pahl on the call.

Packers win, suffer key injury

For the first time since the 2020 season, the Green Bay Packers have started the season with a 2-0 record with a 27-18 victory over Washington on Thursday, Sept. 11.

Green Bay will next play on Sunday, Sept. 21 when they play at Cleveland for a noon kickoff.

The Packers last played the Browns at home on Dec. 25, 2021, with the Packers earning the 24-22 victory.

The Browns have not defeated the Packers since 2005.

Brewers clinch post season spot

The Milwaukee Brewers are officially playoff- bound as they mathematically achieved the feat on Saturday, Sept. 13 after the New York Mets were defeated by the Texas Rangers.

As of Wednesday, Sept. 17, the Brewers, Chicago Cubs, and Philadelphia Phillies are the only three teams that have clinched playoff spots with the Phillies winning the National League East.
