WISCONSIN (CIVIC MEDIA) – Wisconsin State Patrol troopers will be working with semitrucks and buses in an effort to crackdown on reckless drivers this week.

The collaboration is part of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association’s (WMCA) annual Trooper in a Truck campaign, which allows State Patrol troopers to use the higher vantage points of larger vehicles to spot dangerous roadway behaviors.

“We’re grateful for the partnerships that support Trooper in a Truck and strengthen our goal of zero preventable deaths on Wisconsin’s roads,” Wisconsin State Patrol Superintendent Tim Carnahan said. “Safe roads rely on everyone to do their part and drive responsibly.”

Troopers will be monitoring the roads for reckless behaviors, such as distracted driving, speeding, following vehicles too closely, and seatbelt violations.

“This initiative has been incredibly effective in past years,” WMCA President Dan Johnson said. “It’s about using creative partnerships and shared resources to make our roads safer for everyone.”

The campaign is part of Operation Safe Driver Week, which is a nationwide initiative that strives to improve driving practices. Trooper in a Truck coincides with Governor Tony Evers “Rural Road Safety Awareness Week” proclamation – a statewide effort to encourage roadway safety and raise awareness for emergency services in the event of a car crash.
