The Ripon Common Council passed a resolution last night commending Police Captain Troy Damsteegt for his 34 years in law enforcement. The last 15 years was with the Ripon Police Department.

He is retiring. He became Captain of the department in 2017, the same year Bill Wallner became Chief. Wallner told the Council Damsteegt has been his right-hand person, heavily relied upon by their officers for everything, and they will have some huge shoes to fill.

Damsteegt said it has been an honor to serve the citizens of the community. But that service isn’t done yet.

The Council also appointed him to serve as temporary municipal judge for the Lakeside Municipal Court until a special election can be held on November 4th. Lakeside Municipal Court Judge Jerry Jaye is retiring.

Both Damsteegt’s appointment, as temporary judge and the special election, also have to be approved by other communities that are members of the Lakeside Municipal Court.
