WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WFHR/WIRI) – This year marked the 33rd annual Mayor’s Breakfast at Marshfield’s DairyFest. The event took place on May 30. This year’s celebration continued with awards and a visit from Central Wisconsin’s “Fairest of the Fair”. It also had one special surprise guest who decided to help serve.

The Mayor’s Breakfast

Each year the kickoff to Marshfield’s Dairy Fest celebration is the Mayor’s Breakfast. It is an opportunity to connect with friends and neighbors, enjoy a good meal, and see the scholarship and lifetime achievement awards presented. There are organizations with information around to answer questions. This year, WIRI provided background music to entertain while participants enjoyed egg scramble, pancakes, sausage and more. According to Dawn Krueger, the event coordinator, “It went very smoothly. The volunteers were fantastic.”

Surprise Guest who Volunteered

A surprise guest was among those many volunteers at the Mayor’s Breakfast. Governor Tony Evers heard about the event and made the call. Krueger shared, “The Governor’s office called and asked if they could attend. It was a lot to orchestrate.” Because of his attendance, there was extra security, and they canvased the fairgrounds where the breakfast took place.

This surprise guest’s arrival was subtle, almost unnoticeable. There was no introduction to the crowd or fanfare given. He did, however, want the opportunity to serve. According to Krueger, “He was very excited to be here and wanted to meet people. He asked to be able to serve with the volunteers.” He was just one of many who helped serve well over 1500 people as they came through the buffet line.

Other Highlights

During the event seven scholarship awards were given out. The recipients included Tysen Lindner, Mallory Cepress, Jordan Berg, Ella Ratz, Sylvia Durrant, Alexis Meyer, and Jessica Lindow. They also posthumously awarded a lifetime achievement award to Randy Meyer, who suddenly passed away on February 23 of this year. Attendees also had the chance to win one of several door prizes which were awarded to the winners every half hour of the event.
