Softball and baseball seasons end with track and field State on the horizon
Baseball and Softball seasons wrap up. Local teams head to State Track and Field. Wisconsin Rapids Rafters play first ten games of the season.
Local Baseball and Softball teams end seasons
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WFHR / WIRI) – The baseball and softball seasons have come to an end for the local teams with a handful of one-and-done performances.
Assumption Softball earned another Regional Title with a 5-2 victory over Auburndale on May 29, but dropped its Sectional Final game to Pacelli 3-0.
Rapids Softball lost its Regional Final to Chippewa Falls 11-3, while Rapids Baseball fell to River Falls in a Regional Semifinal, 2-1.
Assumption Baseball lost in the Regional semis to Gibraltar 5-1, as Port Edwards and Nekoosa both lost their opening games to Sevastopol and Bangor by scores of 12-8 in eight innings, and 8-1 respectively.
Track and Field State set
The Assumption and Wisconsin Rapids Track and Field teams will be represented at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships over Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse.
The Raiders have just one athlete, Aiden Stainbrook, competing in the 400 Meter Dash.
The Royals will be competing in five events with junior Bella Thomas defending her titles in the 100m and 200m dashes.
Junior Lucy Dolan will be running in the 1600m and 3200m runs as senior Brooklyn Schoenick will be competing at state for the second year in a row. She will be running in the 1600m.
Thomas, Dolan, and Schoenick will also be parts of the 4x400m relay that will be competing with Emily Mrozek, Callie Schoenick and Leire Sainz de Rozas being alternates.
Rafters fighting back to .500
Through the first ten games of the season, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are 4-6 as they have been back-and-forth with success.
To this point, the Rafters have split series with Wausau, Rockford, Lakeshore, and Fond du Lac, while being swept by Green Bay.
Over the next week, the Rafters will play at Royal Oak, Green Bay and Lakeshore, while having its first off day of the season on Wednesday, June 11.
