Beadell, Wilhorn deal no-hitters
The Nekoosa Softball team netted not just one, but two no-hitters in back-to-back games over Monday, April 14 and Tuesday, 15.
Jackie Beadell and Raegen Wilhorn combined for the 11-0 victory over Athens in five frames. Wilhorn went four innings to blank Mauston to open South Central Conference play.
Nekoosa currently has a 3-2 record overall, and it 1-0 in the SCC.
Wisconsin Spring Turkey Season Begins
On Wednesday, April 16, the spring Turkey season began for the state of Wisconsin.
April 16th marks the first of six, week-long seasons. Hunters across the state are allowed to attempt to harvest a male bird, commonly known as Jakes or Toms.
Jakes are immature males, while Toms are mature males. Females, or hens, are not allowed to be harvested.
Complete rules and regulations pertaining to the 2025 Spring Turkey Hunting season can be found on www.dnr.wisconsin.gov.
Milwaukee Bucks to compete in NBA playoffs
The playoffs in the National Basketball Association begins on Friday, April 18. The Milwaukee Bucks are set to be part of it.
The Bucks have made the playoffs for the ninth straight season. They’ve earned the No. 5 in the Eastern Conference and will face No. 4- seeded Indiana Pacers. Game 1 is on Saturday, April 19 in Indianapolis.
Milwaukee and Indiana are meeting for the second straight season in the opening round. The Pacers won the series in 2024 by a 4-2 margin.
Hockey began its quest for Lord Stanley’s Cup
The National Hockey League will be starting its quest for a champion on Saturday, April 19.
Despite Wisconsin not having a team, several regional teams will be competing for the right to hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup at the end of the tournament. The tournament will last until June.
Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Dallas, Colorado, Minnesota, and St. Louis represent the Western Conference. Toronto, Tampa Bay, Florida, Ottawa, Montreal, Washington D.C., Carolina, and New Jersey will all be competing in the Eastern Conference.
