SOMERS, Wis. (WRJN) — There’s a strong political will at Parkside. The University of Wisconsin-Parkside has been honored by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting.
To achieve the accolade, UW-Parkside agreed to share voting data from 2022, which showed how many students voted on campus.
Officials also created and submitted a plan for 2024 to increase student involvement in democracy.
“The research is clear: colleges and universities that make intentional efforts to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement have higher campus voter registration and voter turnout rates,” said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. “These Most Engaged Campuses are setting the standard for nonpartisan civic engagement work across the country.”
UW-Parkside’s College of Social Science and Professional Studies played a significant role with its nonpartisan program, The Election Experience 2024. The initiative included guest speakers, weekly brown bag series, special lectures, and debate watch parties, all designed to engage students, faculty, staff, and community members in discussions about U.S. elections and democracy.
The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge supports over 1,075 institutions in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, engaging 10.8 million students in civic learning, political engagement, and voter participation.
