OSHKOSH, WI- (WISS) – Former Wisconsin Assembly Minority Leader Gordon Hintz announced Monday that he is running for Winnebago County Executive.

Hintz served 16 years in the Wisconsin State Assembly (2007-2023), including four years as the Assembly Minority Leader and three years on the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee.

Currently, he is the Director for the Wisconsin Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust, promoting issues of mutual benefit and concern to both labor and management.

“I’m running for County Executive to improve our quality of life and help create a stronger and more prosperous Winnebago County,” said Hintz in a news release. “We need to hold our leaders to high standards, and demand hard work and accountability. I am determined to meet these expectations and rebuild confidence with the public, and trust with the County Board. Whether you live in an urban, suburban, or rural community, I will be a County Executive for everyone who calls Winnebago County home.”

Hintz said his experience in federal, state and local government uniquely prepares him to be an effective administrator at the county level.

Hintz listed the following issues as his priorities:

  • Quality of life initiatives
  • Providing vital human services and caring for an aging population
  • Increasing public safety
  • Promoting economic development
  • Support expanded opportunities for housing supply
  • Balancing fiscal responsibility with investing in our community’s critical needs

Prior to serving in the Wisconsin Assembly, Gordon Hintz served as a Management Assistant and Municipal Budget Analyst for the City of Long Beach, CA, and as a Legislative Assistant to U.S. Senator Herb Kohl. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Hamline University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the La Follette School of Public Affairs at UW Madison.

Hintz lives in Oshkosh, where he was born and raised. He has two children, Beatrix and Gethin with his wife Elizabeth.

Hintz joins Incumbent Winnebago County Executive Jon Doemel and Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz in running for the top position in the county.

The election will be held in April 2025.
