Veteran lawmaker’s decision receives mixed reaction following an exclusive interview on the Civic Media show Rational Revolution

It’s a decision shaking up Wisconsin politics. And reaction is quickly coming in following the announcement Republican State Senator Robert Cowles will support Kamala Harris. The Green Bay area lawmaker reveals he’s worried about a second term for former President Donald Trump and what it could mean for the country’s future.

Thank you Senator Cowles for putting country over party.

He shares his plans to vote for the Democrat in the upcoming presidential election during an exclusive interview on the Civic Media radio network show Rational Revolution. He tells host Mark Becker, his concerns run deep.

“Trump has to be defeated, and we have to protect the Constitution,” Cowles explains. “The country will go on, even with some liberal things that Harris might do, or might not do. You have to have the foundation of the Constitution, to protect democracy. If you don’t have that, we will disappear.”

His announcement immediately starts making headlines nationally. Digital magazines like HuffPost and Salon pick up the story. And even USA Today offers a commentary on it. TV stations across the state, especially in Green Bay, are sharing Cowles decision to cross party lines.

And social media is rolling with reactions. Here are a few of the posts on X:

@simonsays: “Thank you Senator Cowles for putting country over party”

@jerryretired: “Call me skeptical unless I can see his official ballot.”

@GeneralTrelane: “How is there not more good republicans like this?”

@AcctNo994: “This just makes Cowles look incredibly.. tone deaf.”

Cowles has represented parts of Northeast Wisconsin for more than 40 years. And he understands the potential backlash from Republicans for taking a stand.

“I really think this is one of the most important things I’ve done,” Cowles says. “Hopefully, people will accept that and listen to me. Those that have trusted me and believed in me will think about that. And if they’re undecided, we have to make a change here.”
